What is Suzuki?

At the heart of the Suzuki philosophy is the idea that everyone has talent and can become a successful, sensitive and caring person through the study of music in the Suzuki method. The method treats music education in the same way that people learn to speak their native language; through listening, imitation and repetition in a positive, nurturing learning environment. The emphasis is on musical and personal growth through individual and group instruction which develops technique, musicianship and kind hearts.

American Suzuki Foundation
of Stevens Point, WI

The American Suzuki Foundation (ASF) is the  major fundraising organization for the UW-Stevens Point Suzuki Programs. It was incorporated as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit in 1974 by Margery Aber, along with community leaders involved with the Aber Suzuki Center (ASC) known then as the American Suzuki Talent Education Center (ASTEC).

The Foundation was formed to receive philanthropic gifts to support Suzuki Education at UWSP and to promote the work of Dr. Suzuki.  Governed by a Board of Directors, the Foundation awards approximately $28,000 in scholarships and aid to local, national and international students and teachers who take part in the Aber Suzuki Center and American Suzuki Institute lessons and classes.

The major scholarship fund-raising event of the American Suzuki Foundation is the annual Music of the Masters event.  Held each November, this gala provides a delightful evening of entertainment, socializing and good food.  It showcases the ASC musicians and provides a means for the community to support them.  The event also receives generous patronage from corporate and individual donors.  The Music of the Masters proceeds, individual contributions and bequests are added to the income generated from endowments to fund the work of the Foundation.
